TO ELIMINATE THE EFFECTS OF TOLERANCE STACK-UPS, SOME 1986 MODELS WERE MANUFACTURED WITH A SPACER BETWEEN THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER AND THE BELL HOUSING. THIS SPACER, INSTALLED AS REQUIRED IN PRODUCTION, PROVIDES IMPROVED CLUTCH OPERATION AND DURABILITY BY INSURING PROPER CLUTCH PEDAL FREE TRAVEL. EFFECTIVE WITH THE 1987 MODEL, (VIN J8DB4B1HOH8301533) A RE-DESIGNED CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER WAS RELEASED TO ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR SPACERS. THE NEW SLAVE CYLINDER (P/N 94452957) SUPERCEDES THE PREVIOUS DESIGN, AND MAY BE USED ON ALL 1986 MODEL VEHICLES. SHOULD THE NEW CYLINDER BE INSTALLED ON A 1986 MODEL, SPACERS (IF ANY) MUST BE DISCARDED. NOTICE: ON 1986 MODELS, IF CLUTCH FREE TRAVEL CANNOT BE OBTAINED AFTER CONVENTIONAL ADJUSTMENTS HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED, (AND THE SLAVE CYLINDER HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED) TWO (2) SPACERS, PART NUMBER 9449530 SHOULD BE INSTALLED AS ILLUSTRATED IN FIGURE 1. General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
