The W4 dome lamp assembly contains a switch that has an "ON" position, "OFF" position and "DOOR SWITCH" position. The dome lamp fuse is removed prior to shipment to prevent battery discharge in the event that the switch is left "ON". Therefore, it is necessary to install one of the spare fuses (15 ampere) located on the fuse and relay panel in the following position during pre-delivery:
1987 6
1988 17
The fuse and relay panel is located below the glove box behind an access cover that opens by pulling downward. Fuse amperage and circuit information is printed on the inside of the cover. A typical W4 fuse and relay panel is illustrated in section 8A, Figure No. 10, of the 1986-1987 Medium Duty Forward Service Manual (X-8635). The dome lamp circuit diagram is shown in Section 8C, Figure No. 9.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
