BRAKE CALIPER CLUNKING NOISE (INSTALL CALIPER SHIM KIT)

SUBJECT: BRAKE CALIPER CLUNKING NOISE OR RATTLE

MODELS: 1983-1988 MEDIUM DUTY VEHICLES WITH HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES. FRONT BRAKES ON VEHICLES WITH RPO F43 (9,000 LB) OR F54 (12OOO LB) FRONT AXLES, AND REAR BRAKES ON VEHICLES WITH 17,000 LB TO 22,000 LB REAR AXLES.

Some subject 1983-1988 medium duty vehicles may experience a condition which exhibits a clunking noise or rattle in the brake area. This may be due to wear of the caliper support (anchor plate) and caliper in the forward mount position.

A caliper shim kit, P/N 15625709, is available through GMSPO for repair of the subject condition on 1983-1988 model year vehicles. The shim kit includes illustrated service repair procedures.
