Improved Cold Weather Operation

Subject:Vapor Freezing in the PCV System In Cold Weather Conditions (i.e., Less Than - 20 Degrees F)

Attention: This Service Bulletin is intended for use by professional, qualified technicians. Attempting repairs or service without the appropriate training, tools, and equipment could cause injury to you or others and damage to your vehicle that may cause it not to operate properly.


Condition

In cold weather conditions (i.e., less than - 20 degrees F), some affected vehicles may experience vapor freezing in the PCV system.

Correction

Install a 40 mm plastic PCV pipe (Part No. 8-97129-776-0) into the PCV intake duct on the air intake pipe, using the procedure described in this Service Bulletin.

Removal Procedure for Vehicles with Factory-Installed 30 mm Plastic PCV Pipe

Important: Some affected vehicles may have a factory-installed 30 mm plastic PCV pipe glued into the PCV intake duct. This 30 mm plastic PCV pipe must be removed from the PCV intake duct before installing the new 40 mm plastic PCV pipe. Follow the appropriate procedure below.

  1. Release the clip and disconnect the PCV hose from PCV intake duct air intake pipe.
  2. Loosen the clamp on the air cleaner hose and remove two bolts holding air intake pipe to engine.
  3. Disconnect ends of air intake pipe from turbocharger and air cleaner hose.
  4. Remove air intake pipe from vehicle.
  5. Important: Be sure to remove all plastic residue and old adhesive from the inside of the PCV intake duct to ensure proper bonding for the new 40 mm plastic PCV pipe.

  6. Remove the 30 mm plastic PCV pipe from the PCV intake duct.

Installation Procedure for Vehicles with Factory-Installed 30 mm Plastic PCV Pipe

  1. Apply a thin bead of ThreeBond 1207B Silicone Gasket (Part No. 2-90067-801-0) behind the outer lip of 40 mm plastic PCV pipe (Part No. 8-97129-776-0) and insert the PCV pipe into the PCV intake duct.
  2. Connect ends of the air intake to turbocharger and air cleaner hose.
  3. Secure air intake pipe to engine with the two bolts.
  4. Tighten the bolts and clamp.
  5. Connect the PCV hose to PCV intake duct and secure with clip
