A NEW A/C COMPRESSOR SHAFT SEAL HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED ON ALL R-4 AND DA-6 A/C COMPRESSORS DURING THE 1984 MODEL YEAR. A NEW ONE-PIECE LIP SEAL HAS REPLACED THE TWO-PIECE CERAMIC CARBON SEAL. THE LIP SEAL IS A QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AND IS ANTICIPATED TO IMPROVE SHAFT SEAL FIELD PERFORMANCE. INSPECTION AND SHAFT SEAL SERVICE MUST BE MADE AS FOLLOWS: - DA-6 COMPRESSOR ORIGINALLY PRODUCED WITH TWO-PIECE CERAMIC CARBON SEAL MUST BE SERVICED WITH A TWO-PIECE SEAL (P/N 2724280). - DA-6 COMPRESSORS PRODUCED WITH THE ONE-PIECE LIP SEAL MUST BE SERVICED WITH A ONE-PIECE SEAL (P/N 2724319) - R-4 COMPRESSORS ORIGINALLY PRODUCED WITH THE TWO-PIECE CERAMIC CARBON SEAL MUST BE SERVICED WITH A TWO-PIECE SEAL (P/N 12301828) FOR PROPER SHAFT SEAL FUNCTION. - R-4 COMPRESSORS ORIGINALLY PRODUCED WITH THE ONE-PIECE LIP SEAL MAY BE SERVICED WITH EITHER A ONE-PIECE SEAL (P/N 2724319) OR THE TWO-PIECE SEAL (P/N 12301828).
