The clutch cross shaft for the subject models is supported in the clutch housing at each end by a needle bearing, each protected by a dust seal. These bearings are permanently lubricated and have no provisions for periodic maintenance.
In some applications where these vehicles are exposed to excessive amounts of road salt and sand, with accumulated mileage the cross shaft bearings may become contaminated and eventually seize.
A new service cross shaft is now available, which incorporates a zerk fitting to lubricate the bearings. If a failure of the cross shaft is encountered on a vehicle which is frequently exposed to these adverse conditions, it is suggested that it be replaced with this service part. The Customer should be advised of this additional lubrication point for periodic maintenance.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
