Periodic inspection of slave cylinder pushrod clearance will increase clutch assembly service life by insuring proper release bearing free travel. The release bearing must not contact the pressure plate release fingers when the driver's foot is off the clutch pedal or clutch slippage may result. Follow the procedures below for adjusting slave cylinder pushrod clearance.
See Figure 1 for Steps 1-3.
1. Disconnect the return spring (1) from the slave cylinder.
2. Slide the dustcover (2) off the slave cylinder body.
3. Loosen the pushrod jamnut (3).
4. Spin the pushrod (4) until slight contact occurs with the piston (5) as shown in Figure 2.
5. Back-off the pushrod 2-1/4 turns as shown in Figure 3.
6. Tighten jamnut (3), install dustcover (2), and return spring (1) Refer to Figure 1.
7. Road test vehicle to ensure proper clutch system operation.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
