Condition
Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:
• | Intermittent MIL/Service Engine Soon indicator illuminated |
• | Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light illuminated |
• | Engine will not start or stalls after start up |
• | Various electrical system failures |
Cause
The front chassis harness chaffing near the left cab support may cause
these conditions. The harness is routed through the wheelhouse near the left
front tire. Abrasive debris and water enters the harness and over time may
wear through the insulation of the wires enclosed in the harness.
Correction
Inspect and repair any damaged wires. Use the procedure listed below.
- Remove both p-clips securing the suspected
harness (1) to the frame.
- Inspect the harness for damage by opening the conduit at the top
(just below branch) and follow the wires all the way down to the frame. Damage
normally occurs at the low point where the harness loops around the bottom
of the frame.
- Clean away as much debris as possible and repair any damaged wires.
Refer to Wiring Repairs in the Wiring Systems sub-section of the Service Information.
- Wrap the outside of the plastic conduit from branch to frame with
3M® Electrical Moisture Sealant Tape, P/N 06147, or equivalent to prevent
future damage.
