GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

This system uses a dual type tank which consists of one tank having two separate compartments of equal size.

The front section (or wet tank) is connected to the air compressor and serves to provide a place where the air, heated during compression, may cool, and oil and water vapors condense. The rear section (or dry tank) is charged from the wet tank by external piping. The front section (or wet tank) supplies the front brake system and the rear section (or dry tank) supplies the rear brake system.

A one-way check valve at the inlet to the front section (or wet tank) prevents an air pressure loss from the service brakes if there is a leak in the compressor discharge line.

Condensation should be drained from both tanks daily. In order to drain the tanks properly, open the drain cocks at the end of the day with full system air pressure.
