For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Set the tire pressure for the maximum recommendations.
  2. Inspect the wheel bearings for 0.025-0.25 mm (.001-.010 in) free play and proper level of 90 weight gear lubricant.
  3. Inspect the following components.
  4. • The tie rod ends for lubricant and excessive wear.
    • The steering link rod ends for lubricant and excessive wear.
    • The steering gear mounting bolts.
    • The king pins for lubricant and excessive wear.
    • The front and the rear axle alignment.
  5. Check the torque of the spring U-bolts. Tighten to the following specifications, if necessary.
  6. • Tighten the ¾-inch diameter U-bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the ¾-inch diameter U-bolt to 508-576 N·m (375-425 lb ft).

    • Tighten the 7/8-inch diameter U-bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the 7/8-inch diameter U-bolt to 813-881 N·m (600-650 lb ft).

    • Tighten the 1 inch diameter U-bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the 1 inch diameter U-bolt to 1220-1288 N·m (900-950 lb ft).

  7. Inspect the spring shackles and hangers for cracks, lack of lubrication and tightness to the frame.
  8. Inspect the front axle wheel stops to prevent over or under steer.
  9. Turn the wheels straight ahead.
  10. Inspect the steering gear pinion for center location.
  11. Inspect the steering wheel free play with the engine running for no more than one inch free play before tire movement.
  12. Set the gear stops right and left to prevent damage to the steering linkage when hitting the axle stops.
