  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sender connector.
  2. Connect the red lead of J 39200 to the WHT (17) wire and the other lead to the ground.
  3. Adjust the resistance dials.
  4. Does the temperature gauge indicate the specified values?

1400 ohms (cold)

55 ohms (hot)

Go to Step 5

Replace the engine coolant temperature sender.

Is the repair complete?

Locate an open in the WHT (17) wire between the engine coolant temperature sender connector and the temperature gauge.

Is the WHT (17) wire open?

Replace the temperature gauge.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sender connector.
  2. Ground the WHT (17) wire at the engine coolant temperature sender connector.

Does the temperature gauge read hot?

  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sender connector.
  2. Place the ignition switch in RUN.

Does the temperature gauge indicate cold?

Locate an open in the WHT (17) wire between the engine coolant temperature sender connector and temperature gauge.

Is the WHT (17) wire open?

  2. Ground the DK GRN (35) wire at the engine coolant temperature sender connector.

  2. Place the ignition switch in RUN.

Does the temperature gauge indicate cold?

Locate an open in the DK GRN (35) wire between the engine coolant temperature sender connector and the temperature gauge.

Is the DK GRN (35) wire open?
