Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the right front tire.
- Remove the splash shield from the right front wheel well.
- Remove the lead wires from the glow plug in cylinder 2.
- Remove the lead wires for the glow plugs
in cylinders 4 and 6 at the harness connectors.
- Remove the heat shroud for the glow plug in cylinder 4.
- Remove the heat shroud for cylinder 6.
| • | Slide the shrouds back far enough in order to allow access for
unplugging the wires at cylinder 4 and 6 glow plugs. |
| • | Use J 39083 in order to disconnect the glow plug wires. |
- Remove the glow plugs from cylinders 2, 4, and 6. If the glow
plug was damaged during the removal procedure, refer to
Damaged Glow Plug Removal
.
- Disconnect the lead wire at the glow plug from cylinder 8 from
inside of the vehicle.
- Remove the glow plug from cylinder 8. If the glow plug was damaged
during the removal procedure, refer to
Damaged Glow Plug Removal
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the glow plug into cylinder 8 from inside of the vehicle.
Tighten
Tighten the glow plugs to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Connect the lead wire to the cylinder 8 glow plug.
- Install the glow plugs into cylinders 2, 4, and 6 by reaching
through the right front wheel well.
Tighten
Tighten the glow plugs to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
- Install the lead wire to glow plug 6.
| • | Slide the shroud over the wire lead. |
| • | Fasten the shroud to the studs. |
| • | Repeat Step 4 for the cylinder 4 glow plug. |
Tighten
Tighten the heat shroud nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).
- Connect the wires for the glow plugs in
cylinders 4 and 6 to the connectors at the wire harness.
- Install the lead wire for the cylinder 2 glow plug.
- Install the splash shield in the right front wheel well.
- Inspect the wire routing, ensuring that the lead wires are not
rubbing against the exhaust manifold or any part that may harm the wire insulation.
- Install the right front tire.
