Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Replacement Oil Seal
Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission
assembly and the engine flywheel. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Transmission/Transaxle.
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the following fasteners
from the crankshaft rear oil seal housing:
• | Three bolts using a T27 TORX® wrench and 1 nut. |
• | Two lower studs using an E7 TORX® wrench, if needed. |
- Remove the oil seal housing.
- Remove the crankshaft
rear oil seal housing gasket and discard.
- Clean all of the sealing surfaces.
- Inspect the crankshaft rear oil seal housing for the following
conditions:
Installation Procedure
- Install a new crankshaft
rear oil seal housing gasket.
- Install the crankshaft
rear oil seal housing to the engine block.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the following
fasteners to the oil seal housing:
• | Three bolts using a T27 TORX® wrench and 1 nut. |
• | Two lower studs using an E7 TORX® wrench, if needed. |
Tighten
• | Tighten the crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts and nut to
12 N·m (106 lb in). |
• | Tighten the lower studs to 6 N·m (53 lb in),
if needed. |
- Install the engine oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Install the transmission
assembly and the engine flywheel. Refer to
Transmission Replacement
in Transmission/Transaxle.
Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Replacement Housing
Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission
assembly and the engine flywheel. Refer to

- Remove the oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the following fasteners
from the crankshaft rear oil seal housing:
• | Three bolts using a T27 TORX® wrench and 1 nut. |
• | Two lower studs using an E7 TORX® wrench, if needed. |
- Remove the oil seal housing.
- Remove the housing gasket
from the crankshaft rear oil seal and discard.
- Clean all of the sealing surfaces.
- Inspect the crankshaft rear oil seal housing for the following
conditions:

- Install the crankshaft
rear oil seal housing to the engine block.
