Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left
Removal Procedure
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Install the glow plugs
to the cylinder head. Refer to Glow Plug Replacement - Left Side
or Glow Plug Replacement - Right Side
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the heat shield
from the front of the exhaust manifold.
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer
to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust crossover
pipe bolts from the exhaust manifolds.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the exhaust manifold
and the stud/bolts. Refer toExhaust Manifold Removal (L65)
- Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces on the cylinder head. Refer
to
Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection
.
- Clean the threads on the exhaust manifold bolts and the stud/nuts.
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust manifold and the stud/bolts. Refer toExhaust Manifold Installation (L65)
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the exhaust
manifold bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
- Install the heat shield
to the front of the exhaust manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts and the nuts to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the exhaust crossover
pipe and the bolts. Refer to
Exhaust Pipe Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
- Install the glow plugs to the cylinder head. Refer to Glow Plug Replacement - Left Side
or Glow Plug Replacement - Right Side
in Engine
Controls.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
