Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 223736  Size: SH
  1. Remove the following parts from the exhaust manifold:
  2. • The nuts
    • The springs, if equiped
    • The washers, if equiped
    • The seals
  3. Inspect all of the components for the following damage. Replace the components as necessary:
  4. • Cracks
    • Bends
    • Stripped threads
    • Corrosion damage
    • Leaks

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the following parts to the exhaust manifold:
  2. • The seals
    • The pipe
    • The springs, if equiped
    • The washers, if equiped
    • The nuts

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten

        • Tighten the exhaust pipe nuts to the exhaust manifold mounting studs to 65 N·m (48 lb ft) for the 4.3, 5.7, and 7.4L .
        • Tighten the exhaust pipe nuts to the exhaust manifold mounting studs to 28 N·m (21 lb ft) for the 6.5L.
