Exhaust system designs vary according to the model designation and intended use of the vehicle.
Some exhaust systems use a flange and seal joint coupling to secure the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Other exhaust systems use just a flange to secure the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
The other connections use a slip-joint coupling design with a clamp and U-bolt or two flat flanges with a gasket between them.
The exhaust system is suspended by hangers attached to the frame members. This permits some movement of the exhaust system, but should not permit the transfer of noise and vibration into the vehicle.
Heat shields are used to protect the vehicle and the environment from the high temperatures developed from the exhaust system, especially the catalytic converter (if used).
