Restricted Exhaust System Check EFI

Proper diagnosis for a restricted exhaust system is essential before any components are replaced. The following procedure may be used for diagnosis:

1. Inspect the entire exhaust system for a collapsed pipe, heat distress, or a possible internal muffler failure.
2. If there are no obvious reasons for the excessive backpressure, the catalytic converter is suspected to be restricted and should be replaced by using current recommended procedures. Refer to Engine Electrical of the appropriate service manual.
