Leaf Springs Replacement I-Beam
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with suitable safety stands.
Support the axle separately in order to eliminate any load on the springs.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Remove the nut and the
washer.
- Remove the shock absorber from the axle.
- Remove the spacer (8)
and the spring spacer (9).
- Remove the leaf spring (6) from the axle (12).
- Remove the following components:
- In order to separate the spring from the rear shackle.
- Remove the following components:
- In order to separate the spring from the front hanger (15).
Pull the leaf spring backward and out.
- Remove the leaf spring (6) from the frame.
Installation Procedure
- Install the leaf spring (6)
to the frame.
• | Line up the spring with the rear shackle (3) and the spring
hanger (4). |
• | The double wrap end is toward the front of the vehicle. |
- Install the following components:
- Attach the spring to the front hanger (15).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the following
components:
- Attache the spring (6) to the rear shackle (3).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 113 N·m (83 lb ft).
- Install the leaf spring (6) to the axle (12).
• | Position the spring spacer (9) onto the axle (12). |
• | Either aligning pin can contact the edge of the leaf spring after
the assembly is complete. |
- Install the following components:
Tighten
• | Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft)
in a diagonal sequence (Example: 1-3-4-2). |
• | Tighten the nuts to 109 N·m (80 lb ft)
in a diagonal sequence (Example: 1-3-4-2). |
- Install the shock absorber
to the axle.
- Install the washer and the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the front wheel alignment and reset as required. Refer to
Wheel Alignment Specifications
in
Wheel Alignment.
