Yoke Replacement Automatic Transmission

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Important: On two or three-piece propeller shafts, the front yoke is bolted to the tailshaft.

  3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 175622  Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolt and the washer.
  6. Important: Cap the end of the transmission in order to minimize fluid loss.

  7. Remove the yoke.
  8. Inspect the splines for the following conditions:
  9. • Wear
    • Burrs
    • Twisting
  10. Inspect the yoke ears for damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front yoke.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the washer and the bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  5. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  6. Remove the safety stand, and lower the vehicle.
  7. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid/Filter Changing .

Yoke Replacement With Mounted Park Brake

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Important: On two or three-piece propeller shafts, the front yoke is bolted to the tailshaft.

  3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 175615  Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolt and the washer from the center of the yoke.
  6. Important: Cap the end of the transmission in order to minimize fluid loss.

  7. Remove the park brake drum and yoke assembly from the transmission.
  8. Remove the bolts that hold the drum to the yoke.
  9. Inspect the splines for the following conditions:
  10. • Wear
    • Burrs
    • Twisting
  11. Inspect the yoke ears for damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the bolts that the drum to the yoke.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  3. Install the drum and yoke assembly to the transmission.
  4. Install the new washer and bolt to the transmission mainshaft at the center of the yoke.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  6. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Three-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  7. Remove the safety stand, and lower the vehicle.
  8. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid/Filter Changing .

Yoke Replacement Manual Transmission

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  3. Important: Cap the end of the transmission in order to minimize fluid loss.

  4. Remove the bolts and the retainers.
  5. Remove the bolt and the washer.
  6. Remove the yoke.
  7. Inspect the splines for the following conditions:
  8. • Wear
    • Burrs
    • Twisting
  9. Inspect the yoke ears for damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front yoke.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   3. Install the washer and the bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 110 N·m (81 lb  ft).

  5. Install the retainers and the bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb  ft).

  7. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  8. Remove the safety stand, and lower the vehicle.
  9. Inspect the transmission fluid level. Refer to Fluid Replacement in Manual Transmission.
