Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the nut.
  4. Remove the bolt and the washer.
  5. Remove the hose assembly from the rear of the compressor.
  6. Remove the sealing washers. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .
  7. Remove the hose assembly from the receiver/dryer.
  8. Remove the O-ring seal.
  9. Remove the hose assembly from the condenser.
  10. Remove the O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new O-ring seal.
  2. Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the hose assembly to the condenser.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the hose assembly to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the new O-ring seal.
  6. Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  7. Install the hose assembly to the receiver/dryer.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the hose assembly to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  9. Install the sealing washers. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .
  10. Install the hose assembly to the rear of the compressor.
  11. Install the washer.
  12. Install the bolt.
  13. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  14. Install the nut.
  15. Tighten
Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Add the refrigerant to the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  18. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
