Removal Procedure

Notice: When servicing a vehicle that requires replacement of the master cylinder, the reservoir, or the tubing, you must replace the entire master cylinder assembly. Replacement of individual components cannot be performed. A complete pre-filled, pre-bled master cylinder must be installed.

Tools Required

J 36221 Quick Connect Coupling Removal Tool

  1. Disconnect the pushrod from the clutch pedal.

  2. Object Number: 167292  Size: SH
  3. Remove the hydraulic tube from the quick connect coupling on the concentric slave cylinder. UseJ 36221 in order to depress the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect coupling in order to separate the clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder.

  4. Object Number: 167302  Size: SH
  5. Remove the plastic clip and the clutch line from the frame.

  6. Object Number: 167299  Size: SH
  7. Rotate the master cylinder 45 degrees clockwise. Remove the master cylinder from the cowl panel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 167299  Size: SH
  1. Install the master cylinder to the cowl panel by holding the master cylinder at a 45 degree angle. Rotate the master cylinder counterclockwise. Ensure that you do not over rotate the master cylinder or damage will occur.

  2. Object Number: 167292  Size: SH
  3. Install the hydraulic tube to the quick connect coupling on the concentric slave cylinder.

  4. Object Number: 167302  Size: SH
  5. Install the tube clips to the frame.
  6. Install the pushrod to the clutch pedal. Inspect the reservoir for fluid. If more fluid is required, add DOT 3 brake fluid GM P/N 1052535 or the equivalent.
  7. Connect the pushrod to the clutch pedal.
