Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 22065  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with suitable safety stands.
  2. Remove both front tires and wheels. Refer to Wheel Removal and Tire Mounting and Dismounting in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove both front shock absorbers. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement .
  4. Support the front axle with suitable safety stands.
  5. Remove the jam nuts, the nut, the washers, and the lower shock absorber mount from the axle.

  7. Remove the U-bolt, the front spring spacer, and the axle mounting plate from the axle and the leaf spring.

  8. Object Number: 22068  Size: SH
  9. Remove the nut, the washers, the front eyebolt and the front of the spring from the hanger.
  10. Remove the nuts, the washers, the rear eyebolt and the spring from the rear shackle.
  11. Remove the nut, the washers, the bolt and the shackle from the rear hanger if replacing the shackle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 22068  Size: SH
  1. Position the spring and the shim over the axle.
  2. Install the shackle in the hanger with the bolt, the washers, and the nut if the shackle was removed.
  3. Install the spring in the shackle with the rear eyebolt, the washers and the nut.
  4. Install the spring in the front hanger with the front eyebolt, the washers and the nut.

  6. Install the axle mounting plate, the front spring spacer, and the U-bolt on the leaf spring and around the axle.

  7. Object Number: 22065  Size: SH
  8. Install the lower shock absorber mount under the axle, the washers, the nuts and the jam nuts on the U-bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the spring-to-front hanger nut and the spring-to-rear shackle nut to 272 N·m (200 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the front spring rear shackle-to-rear hanger nut to 455 N·m (336 lb ft).

    Tighten
    Tighten the U-bolt nuts and the jam nuts to 340 N·m (250 lb ft).

  10. Remove the safety stands from the axle.
  11. Install the shock absorbers. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement .
  12. Install the tires and the wheels. Refer to Wheel Removal and Tire Mounting and Dismounting in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
