J 29803-A Flaring Kit
Use the correct size steel pipe and fittings. The outside diameter of the pipe specifies the size.
Cut the pipe to length and add 3 mm (1/8- in) to the length for each flare.
Install the fitting on the pipe before starting the flaring procedure
Chamfer the inside and the outside diameter of the pipe with a deburring tool.
Remove all traces of lubricant from the brake pipe and the flaring tool.
Clamp the flaring tool body (1) in a vise (2).
Select the correct size collet and forming mandrel for the pipe size used.
Insert the proper forming mandrel in the tool body.
Hold the mandrel in place with your finger and thread in the forcing screw until it makes contact and begins to move the forming mandrel.
Slide the clamping nut (2) over the brake pipe (1) into the correct collet (3). Leave about 19 mm (¾- in) of pipe extending out of the collet.
Insert the assembly into the tool body.
The brake pipe end must contact the face of the forming mandrel.
Tighten the clamping nut into the tool body very tightly or the pipe may push out.
Wrench tighten the forcing screw in until it bottoms but do not overtighten this screw or the flare may become oversized.
Back the clamping nut out of the tool body.
Disassemble the clamping nut and the collet assembly. The flare is now ready for use.
Bend the pipe to match the old one using a pipe bender.
