Headlamp Switch Replacement P72

Removal Procedure

  1. The headlamp switches are installed by the body builder. The following instructions may vary.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Remove the headlamp switch/instrument panel dimmer switch bezel.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors to the headlamp switch and the instrument panel dimmer switch.
  5. Remove the switch mounting screws.
  6. Remove the headlamp and the instrument panel dimmer switches.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the headlamp and the instrument panel dimmer switches onto the headlamp switch bezel.
  2. Secure the switches with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the electrical connectors.
  4. Install the headlamp switch/instrument panel dimmer switch bezel.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the knob assembly.
  2. 1.1. Pull the knob assembly out to the "Headlamps On" position.
    1.2. Press the knob assembly retaining pin on the top of the switch.
    1.3. Pull out the knob assembly while holding down the retaining pin.
  3. Remove the headlamp switch nut.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector
  5. Remove the headlamp switch.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the headlamp switch.
  2. Install the headlamp switch nut.
  3. Connect the electrical connector.
  4. Install the knob assembly into the switch assembly by inserting the knob all the way into the headlamp switch. Pull it all the way out to verify the detent engagement.
