Perform a Diagnostic on the Transfer Case Control Module P72

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 40838  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Drain the coolant into an appropriate container.
  3. Remove the radiator, the oil cooler and the fan shroud.
  4. Disconnect the hydraulic hose attached to the clutch cylinder.

  6. Remove the washers, the lockwashers and the nuts from the fan clutch.
  7. Remove the fan from the fan clutch.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 40833  Size: SH
  1. Install the fan on the clutch with the lockwashers, the washers and the nuts.
  2. Tighten the nuts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 34 N·m (64 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the hydraulic hose to the fan clutch control assembly.
  5. Install the radiator, the oil cooler and the fan shroud.
  6. Fill the radiator with coolant up to the proper level.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal Procedure

  2. Remove the mounting bolts from the front of the fan.
  3. Remove the fan and spacer from the fan clutch.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the spacer on the hub of the fan clutch.
  2. Install the fan on the spacer.
  3. Install the fan mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten the fan mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the mounting bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.
