The cranking circuit consists of the battery, the starter motor, the engine control switch, the starter motor relay and any related electrical wiring.

The charging system consists of a battery, a generator, a regulator and the charging system indicator lamp circuitry. The generator supplies electrical power for charging the battery and operating the accessories.
