Exhaust Noise

Possible Cause

Action

Leakage at the component joints and couplings.

Tighten the clamps or the couplings to the specified torque.

Exhaust system improperly installed or misaligned.

Align, then tighten the connections.

Exhaust manifold cracked or broken

Replace the manifold.

Leak between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.

Tighten the manifold to the cylinder head nuts and bolts.

Damaged or worn seals or packing.

Replace the seals or the packing as necessary.

Burned or rusted-out exhaust pipe heat tube extension

Replace the heat tube extensions as required.

Burned or blown-out muffler.

Replace the muffler assembly.

Broken or loose clamps and/or brackets.

Repair or replace as necessary.
