Vacuum Pump

  1. Block the vehicle's wheels.
  2. Set the parking brake.
  3. Place the transmission selector lever in P (Park) or N (Neutral).
  4. Connect a vacuum gauge to the vacuum pump inlet hose.
  5. Let the engine idle.

Does the vacuum reach the minimum acceptable value within 30 seconds? (Refer to Mechanical Specifications.)

  1. Check the gauges and the connections for leaks.
  2. Check the belt tension and the pulley-to-shaft fit on belt-driven models.
  3. Check the idle rpm.

Is the vacuum OK after making these checks and making any necessary repairs or adjustments?

Replace the vacuum pump.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect the vacuum gauge to the vacuum pump inlet hose using a "T" fitting.
  2. Connect the accessories hoses to the "T" fitting.
  3. Idle the engine for one minute.

Is the minimum vacuum within 10 kPa (3"-Hg) of the measurement taken previously?

Check all the attaching hoses and the vacuum accessories for leaks.
