Scheduled Maintenance Service

Introduction

The following information covers the maintenance required for these vehicles. This maintenance is required to retain the safety, dependability, and emission control performance of these vehicles.

Important: Keep the engine oil at the proper level and change the oil as recommended. Proper vehicle maintenance keeps the vehicle in good operating condition and directly helps the environment. Improper vehicle maintenance or the removal of important components can significantly affect the quality of the air we breathe. Improper fluid levels or improper tire inflation can increase the level of emissions from these vehicles. Help protect the environment by keeping these vehicles in proper operating condition. Perform ALL recommended maintenance procedures.

Using the Maintenance Schedule

GM wants to help keep these vehicles in good working condition. The customers operate their vehicles under a variety of road and off-road conditions. These conditions may require more frequent checks than what you find listed in the Maintenance Schedules. Review the schedules while determining the customer's driving habits. The vehicle will be properly maintained if these conditions are considered.

In order to locate the proper fluids and lubricants, refer to LINK Recommended Fluids and Lubricants. Use the proper fluids and lubricants whenever servicing these vehicles.

The schedules are for vehicles that satisfy the following conditions:

    • Vehicles that carry passengers and cargo within the recommended limits. Refer to LINK Vehicle Certification Label.
    • Vehicles that are driven on reasonable road surfaces within the legal driving limits.
    • Vehicles that use the recommended unleaded fuel.

Highway, Long Trip Definition

Follow Highway Maintenance Schedule ONLY if none of the conditions from the City Traffic Schedule is true. Refer to LINK Maintenance Schedule II.

Footnotes

* The California Air Resources Board has determined that the failure to perform this maintenance item will not nullify the emission warranty or limit recall liability prior to the completion of the vehicle useful life. We do urge, however, that ALL recommended maintenance be recorded.

** For Drive Axle Service, perform the following:

    • Dana -- Drain the fluid and refill at the first engine oil change. Change the lubricant every 166 000 km (100,000 miles) or 24 months for normal use. If driving in dusty, sandy or wet conditions, or towing a trailer, change the lubricant every 42 000 km (25,000 miles) or 6 months.
    • Eaton -- Drain the fluid and refill at 8 000 km (5,000 miles) initially. Change the lubricant every 166 000 km (100,000 miles) thereafter for normal use. For more severe use, change the lubricant every 64 000 km (40,000 miles).
    • More frequent lubrication may be required for heavy-duty use.
