UNNECESSARY PAN SEAL REPLACE WITH 4L80E AND 4L80EHD

WE RECOMMEND THIS BE SENT AS A DCS MESSAGE.

ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS:

ATTENTION:

SERVICE AND PARTS MANAGERS TRANSMISSION TECHNICIANS

FEEDBACK FROM OUR POWERTRAIN DIVISION INDICATES THAT THE REUSABLE BOTTOM PAN SEAL FOR 4L80-E AND 4L80-EHD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS BEING NEEDLESSLY REPLACED. THE 4L80-E AND 4L80-EHD IS CURRENTLY BEING USED ON C/K, R/V, P TRUCKS AND G VANS.

THE SEAL SHOULD ONLY BE REPLACED WHEN: - RUBBER BEAD IS CUT AND/OR CRIMPED - TORQUE LIMITER OR WASHERS ARE MISSING - CARRIER SEAL IS BROKEN - EVIDENCE OF FLUID SEEPAGE (WITH PROPER FASTENER TORQUE)

YOUR REVIEW AND CORRECTION (IF APPLICABLE) OF THIS SITUATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. UNNECESSARY REPLACEMENT OF THE REUSABLE SEAL ONLY ADDS EXTRA EXPENSE TO THE REPAIR.

THIS INFORMATION WAS COVERED IN CHEVROLET DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 92-12-7A (CORPORATION NUMBER 177123) DATED SEPT. 1991. PROPER SEAL SERVICING IS ALSO COVERED IN THE 1991 AND 1992 SERVICE MANUALS AND IN THE GMSTG TRAINING COURSES.

PLEASE COMMUNICATE A COPY OF THIS INFORMATION TO YOUR SERVICE AND PARTS MANAGERS AND YOUR TRANSMISSION TECHNICIANS.
