SUBJECT: SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT - EXTENDED TRANSMISSION WARRANTY COVERAGE

MODELS: ALL 1991-92 CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK C/K, R/V, P TRUCKS, AND G-VANS EQUIPPED WITH THE HYDRA-MATIC 4L80-E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (RPO-MT1)

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT ALL 1991-92 CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK C, K, R, V, P TRUCKS AND G-VANS BUILT WITH THE HYDRA-MATIC 4L80-E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MAY EXPERIENCE PREMATURE WEAR AND/OR FAILURE REQUIRING REPAIR OR UNIT REPLACEMENT.

THIS SPECIAL POLICY BULLETIN HAS BEEN ISSUED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES.

SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT

THE WARRANTY ON HYDRA-MATIC 4L80-E TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN EXTENDED ON 1991 MODELS FROM 36 MONTHS OR 50,000 MILES (80,000 KM), WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, TO 60 MONTHS OR 75,000 MILES (120,000 KM), WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE 36 MONTH/50,000 MILE (80,000 KM) WARRANTY HAS ALSO BEEN ELIMINATED FOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD. ON 1992 MODELS, THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED FROM 36 MONTHS OR 36,000 MILES (60,000 KM), WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, TO 60 MONTHS OR 75,000 MILES (120,000 KM), WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, WITH NO DEDUCTIBLE.

ADDITIONALLY, A CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT POLICY HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. THIS POLICY WILL PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT FOR ANY CUSTOMER PAID 4L80-E TRANSMISSION REPAIR FROM THE DATE OF DELIVERY UNTIL 60 MONTHS OR 75,000 MILES (120,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE ASSOCIATED WITH 1991 MODELS IS INCLUDED IN THE REIMBURSEMENT POLICY.

THIS "SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT BULLETIN" SHOULD BE FILED IN YOUR "SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT BULLETINS" BINDER FURNISHED TO DEALERS BY GENERAL MOTORS.

INVOLVED ARE ALL 1991-92 CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK C/K, R/V, P TRUCKS, AND G-VANS EQUIPPED WITH THE HYDRA-MATIC 4L80-E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (RPO-MT1) BUILT WITHIN THE FOLLOWING VIN BREAKPOINTS:

OWNER NOTIFICATION

OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THIS SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT ON THEIR VEHICLES BY CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK DIVISIONS (SEE THE SAMPLE COPY OF AN OWNER LETTER INCLUDED WITH THIS BULLETIN).

REIMBURSEMENT

CUSTOMER CLAIMS FOR REIMBURSEMENT ON PREVIOUSLY PAID 4L80-E TRANSMISSION REPAIRS, INCLUDING THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE ASSOCIATED WITH 1991 MODELS, ARE TO BE SUBMITTED TO AN AUTHORIZED CHEVROLET OR GMC TRUCK DEALER BY APRIL 30, 1996 (THE TIME LIMITATION FOR PRESENTING THE ORIGINAL PAID RECEIPT MAY BE LONGER DEPENDING UPON THE LAW IN YOUR STATE). THE REIMBURSEMENT SHOULD NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY CHEVROLET OR GMC TRUCK FOR THE APPLICABLE LABOR OPERATION. IF THE AMOUNT EXCEEDS THE WARRANTY RATE, DEALERS ARE TO CONTACT CHEVROLET OR GMC TRUCK FOR REIMBURSEMENT APPROVAL.

WHEN A CUSTOMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT, THE FOLLOWING MUST ACCOMPANY THE REQUEST AND BE ATTACHED TO THE REPAIR ORDER FILE COPY IN THE DEALERSHIP:

- PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, AND - ORIGINAL DOCUMENTATION THAT CONFIRMS AMOUNT OF UNREIMBURSED REPAIR EXPENSE, A DESCRIPTION OF THE REPAIR, THE DATE OF REPAIR AND THE PERSON OR ENTITY PERFORMING THE REPAIR.

CLAIMS FOR CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT ON PREVIOUSLY PAID REPAIRS ARE TO BE SUBMITTED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED IN THIS BULLETIN.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

GMC TRUCK DEALERS ARE TO REFER TO TRUCK SERVICE BULLETIN 92-7A-154 AND CHEVROLET DEALERS ARE TO REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE 1991 OR 1992 TRUCK SERVICE MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT SERVICE PROCEDURE.

PARTS INFORMATION

PARTS ARE TO BE OBTAINED FROM GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE PARTS OPERATIONS (GMSPO). TO ENSURE THAT THESE PARTS WILL BE OBTAINED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, THEY SHOULD BE ORDERED FROM GMSPO ON A C.I.O. ORDER WITH NO SPECIAL INSTRUCTION CODE, BUT ON AN ADVISE CODE (2).

WARRANTY INFORMATION

DEALERS SHOULD SUBMIT AN ACCURATELY FILLED OUT WARRANTY REPAIR ORDER ON EACH VEHICLE COMPLETED UNDER THIS SPECIAL POLICY. REFER TO THE CURRENT LABOR TIME GUIDE TO DETERMINE "LABOR HOURS." THE FOLLOWING LABOR OPERATIONS SHOULD BE USED ALONG WITH THE APPROPRIATE PART(S) REQUIRED:

T-7746 IS NOT TO BE USED FOR RESIDENTS OF THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN. REQUESTS FROM THESE RESIDENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING TO THE DIVISION. SEE OWNER LETTER FOR DETAILS.

GMC TRUCK HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS IN 1991 MODELS FROM 36 MONTHS OR 50,000 MILES (80,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, TO 60 MONTHS OR 75,000 MILES (120,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. IN ADDITION THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE 36 MONTH/50,000 MILE (80,000 KM) WARRANTY ALSO HAS BEEN ELIMINATED DURING THIS SPECIAL POLICY PERIOD. ON 1992 MODELS, THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED FROM 36 MONTHS OR 36,000 MILES (60,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, TO 60 MONTHS OR 75,000 MILES (120,000 KM), WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, WITH NO DEDUCTIBLE. THIS POLICY DOES NOT APPLY IF THE REPAIR WAS DUE TO AN ACCIDENT, IMPROPER MAINTENANCE OR MISUSE.

IF YOU PREVIOUSLY HAVE HAD THE 4L80-E TRANSMISSION IN YOUR VEHICLE REPAIRED, AND PAID FOR ALL OR PART OF THE REPAIR COST (INCLUDING 1991 MODEL THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE), YOU SHOULD REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT BY CONTACTING YOUR GMC TRUCK DEALER. CONNECTICUT, VIRGINIA, AND WISCONSIN RESIDENTS MUST WRITE TO GMC TRUCK, 31 E. JUDSON ST. (1607-07), PONTIAC, MI 48342- 2230 FOR REIMBURSEMENT. IN EITHER CASE, PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR ORIGINAL PAID RECEIPTS OF INVOICES VERIFYING THE REPAIR, THE AMOUNT CHARGED, PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, PROOF OF YOUR PAYMENT AND DATE OF PAYMENT. THIS INFORMATION MUST BE PROVIDED BY APRIL 30, 1996 (THIS TIME LIMITATION FOR PRESENTING THE ORIGINAL PAID RECEIPTS MAY BE LONGER DEPENDING UPON THE LAWS IN YOUR STATE.) IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD ANY TRANSMISSION REPAIRS, DO NOTHING AT THIS TIME. JUST PLACE THIS LETTER IN THE GLOVE BOX WITH YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL AND OTHER WARRANTY INFORMATION IN CASE YOU SHOULD NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS POLICY IN THE FUTURE.
