Rear Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement 25/3500 Series

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 370688  Size: SH
  1. Disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling .
  2. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  3. Remove the backing plate nuts.
  4. Remove the backing plate from the axle housing flange.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the backing plate nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N·m (100 lb ft).

  5. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement .
  6. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  7. Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling .

Rear Disc Brake Backing Plate Replacement 1500 Series

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the park brake actuator. Refer to Parking Brake Actuator Replacement .
  2. Remove the backing plate bolts.
  3. Remove the backing plate from the axle housing flange.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1497147  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange.
  2. Perform the following procedure before installing the backing plate bolts.
  3. 2.1.  Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2.2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    2.3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the backing plate bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N·m (100 lb ft).

  6. Install the park brake actuator. Refer to Parking Brake Actuator Replacement .
  7. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  8. Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
