Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove negative battery cable.
  2. Remove sensor electrical connector.
  3. Remove power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Removal.

  4. Object Number: 26945 Size: SH
  5. Remove sensor mounting bolt.
  6. Remove sensor from engine.
  7. Important: Care must be taken when handling the sensor. Damage to sensor will affect proper operation of the injection timing control system.

  8. Inspect sensor O-ring for wear, cracks or leakage and replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 26945 Size: SH
  1. Lube new O-ring with engine oil.
  2. Install sensor in engine.
  3. Install sensor mounting bolt.
  4. Tighten
Tighten mounting bolt to 25 N·m (17 lb ft).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install sensor electrical connector.
  6. Install negative battery cables.
  7. Refer to PCM Programming (TDC Offset). This procedure must be done when a crankshaft position sensor is replaced.
