Tools Required
Important: If the intermediate sprag clutch retainer retaining ring (627) has been
removed, you must use a new ring.
- Remove the intermediate sprag clutch retainer retaining ring (627).
- Remove the intermediate
sprag clutch retainer (626).
- Remove the intermediate sprag clutch outer race (625).
- Remove the intermediate clutch sprag assembly (624).
- Inspect the intermediate clutch sprag assembly (624) for damaged
sprags, a damaged cage, or distorted springs.
- Remove the direct clutch
backing plate retaining ring (616).
- Remove the direct clutch backing plate (617).
- Remove the direct clutch plates (611, 618).
- Remove the direct clutch apply plate (wave) (609).
- Inspect the direct clutch backing plate (617) for damage and cracks.
- Inspect the direct clutch plates (609, 611, 618) for wear, burned,
flaking, scoring, and pitting.
- Install the J 23327
and the J 25018-A
onto the direct clutch housing (623).
- Compress the direct clutch spring assembly (607).
- Remove the direct clutch spring retainer ring (608).
- Remove the tools.
- Remove the direct clutch
spring and retainer assembly (607).
- Inspect the direct clutch spring and retainer assembly (607) for
collapsed coils and distortion.
- Remove the direct clutch piston (619). This piston is reusable
unless it is damaged.
- Inspect the direct clutch piston for damage and cracks.
- Remove the direct clutch
piston intermediate seal (622) from the direct clutch housing (623).
- Inspect the direct clutch housing (623) for the following:
• | Proper opening of oil passages |
• | Checkball for free movement (rattles) |
