Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Remover

    Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the fan shroud assembly. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling:
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 173172  Size: SH
  5. Remove the crankshaft pulley in the following manner:
  6. • Remove the three pulley bolts.
    • Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
    • Remove the pulley from the balancer.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation .

  2. Object Number: 173172  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the crankshaft pulley in the following manner:
  4. • Install the pulley and the three bolts.
    • Install the center bolt.

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the pulley bolts to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
  5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  6. Install the fan shroud assembly. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Engine Cooling:
  7. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable
