Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  4. Drain the crankcase. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  5. Remove the oil pan from the engine block. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 173183  Size: SH
  7. Remove the oil pump retaining bolts from the oil pump.
  8. Remove the oil pump assembly from the engine block.

Installation Procedure

Important: When installing the oil pump, always replace the retainer between the oil pump and the shaft.

  1. Install the oil pump to the engine block. Refer to Oil Pump, Pump Screen and Deflector Installation .
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the oil pump mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 88 N·m (65 lb ft).

  5. Install the oil pan to the engine block. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  6. Connect the battery negative cables to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  7. Close the hood.
