Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  4. Raise the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the oil filter from the adapter from the engine block. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 70416  Size: SH
  7. Remove the oil filter adapter (2WD only) from the engine block.

  8. Object Number: 70415  Size: SH
  9. Remove the oil filter adapter (4WD only) from the engine block.
  10. Remove the oil filter bypass valve from the engine block. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Removal .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the bypass valve in the engine block. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Installation .

  2. Object Number: 70416  Size: SH
  3. Install the oil filter adapter (2WD) to the engine block.
  4. Install the oil filter adapter (4WD) to the engine block. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Installation .
  5. Install the oil filter to the adapter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Connect the battery negative cables to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
  8. Close the hood.
