Wheel Cylinder Replacement Components-Leading/Trailing

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 219  Size: SH
  1. Remove the bleeder valve.

  2. Object Number: 223  Size: SH
  3. Remove the boots.

  4. Object Number: 225  Size: SH
  5. Remove the pistons.

  6. Object Number: 227  Size: SH
  7. Remove the seals.
  8. Remove the spring assembly.
  9. Inspect the cylinder bore for scoring and corrosion.
  10. Inspect the spring assembly for signs of discoloration due to heat. Replace if necessary.
  11. Clean the inside of the cylinder bore with a crocus cloth. If the bore is still scored, replace the wheel cylinder.
  12. Clean the cylinder bore with clean brake fluid.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the pistons, seals, and cylinder bore with clean brake fluid.

  2. Object Number: 227  Size: SH
  3. Install the spring assembly.
  4. Install the seals.

  5. Object Number: 225  Size: SH
  6. Install the pistons.

  7. Object Number: 223  Size: SH
  8. Install the boots.

  9. Object Number: 219  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the bleeder valve.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bleeder valve to 13 N·m (110 lb in).

Wheel Cylinder Replacement Leading/Trailing Drum Brakes

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the shoe and linings. Refer to Brake Lining Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 156769  Size: SH
  3. Clean the dirt and foreign material from around the wheel cylinder.
  4. Remove the inlet pipe. Plug the pipe to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Object Number: 236  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts.
  7. Remove the wheel cylinder.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156769  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel cylinder.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the inlet pipe.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  7. Install the shoes and linings. Refer to Brake Lining Replacement .
  8. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .

Wheel Cylinder Replacement Duo-Servo Drum Brakes

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 156751  Size: SH
  1. Remove the linings. Refer to Brake Lining Replacement .
  2. Disconnect the brake pipe from the rear of the master cylinder.
  3. Remove the bolts.
  4. Remove the wheel cylinder.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156751  Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel cylinder.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the brake pipe.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  7. Install the linings. Refer to Brake Lining Replacement .
