- Remove the rear extension housing bolts and the rear extension.
- Remove the rear bearing retainer snap ring from the mainshaft.
- Remove the rear retainer housing bolts.
The rear retainer bolts are shouldered.
- Remove the rear retainer housing from the rear case half.
- Remove the vehicle speed sensor rotor snap ring from the mainshaft.
- Remove the vehicle speed sensor rotor from the mainshaft.
- Remove the rear vehicle speed sensor rotor snap ring from the mainshaft.
- Remove the case bolts from the case halves.
Note that the two longer case bolts and washers go into the doweled
case holes.
- Separate the case halves by inserting two screwdrivers into the
slots cast into the case ends.
Pry the two cases apart.
Do not try to wedge the case halves apart at any point on the mating
surfaces. Damage to the case may result.
- Remove the rear case half and the oil pump as an assembly from the front case.
Do not damage the oil pump while removing the rear case halves. (The
oil pump is located in the rear case half.)
