General Motors has determined that some 1982 K25 GMC Truck Light Duty Trucks equipped with RPO LH6 (diesel engine), MY6 (4-speed overdrive manual transmission) and GT4 (3.73 ratio) rear axle were assembled with the incorrect drive-driven gear and sleeve assembly.
The incorrect speedometer driven gear will result in the speedometer indicating a vehicle speed which is approximately 20% slower than the actual vehicle speed. For example, when the actual vehicle speed is 50 mph, the speedometer will indicate approximately 40 mph.
To correct this condition, the speedometer driven gear and sleeve assemblies will be replaced in all involved vehicles.

The incorrect speedometer driven gear will result in the speedometer indicating a vehicle speed which is approximately 20% slower than the actual vehicle speed. For example, when the actual vehicle speed is 50 mph, the speedometer will indicate approximately 40 mph. To correct this condition on your vehicle, your GMC Truck Dealer will install the correct speedometer driven gear and sleeve assembly. This installation will be performed at no charge to you. We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
