SOME 1982 AND EARLY 1983 'K' TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 6.2L DIESEL ENGINES AND 700-R4 TRANSMISSIONS MAY EXPERIENCE A NOTICEABLE TORSIONAL RATTLE WHEN THE CONVERTER CLUTCH ENGAGES IN SECOND, THIRD OR FOURTH GEAR, UNDER LIGHT TO MODERATE THROTTLE AT SPEEDS BELOW 40MPH. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY REPLACING THE CONVERTER CLUTCH THROTTLE VALVE, SLEEVE AND SPRING IN THE VALVE BODY WITH P/N 8642970 (SEE FIGURE 1 **) IF AN OBJECTIONABLE RATTLE STILL EXISTS AFTER INSTALLING THE SERVICE PACKAGE, ADDITIONAL NOISE DAMPENING CAN BE ACHIEVED BY FILLING THE PROPSHAFT WITH URETHANE FOAM PER THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE. (**SEE BULLETIN FOR DETAIL**)
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
