CAMPAIGN: WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP FAILURE - INSTALL SHIELD

MODELS: 1985 and 1986 Chevrolet & GMC C/K Models

General Motors of Canada has become aware of a condition on 1985 and some 1986 C/K Model Light Duty Trucks where the windshield washer pump motor, located behind the plastic reservoir, may become corroded and shorten the life of the motor. A crimp between the inner and outer fender could divert water onto the pump during a car wash or heavy rain or overfilling of the washer jar could cause drenching of the pump motor, thus causing the pump motor to corrode.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, involved owners will be mailed a plastic shield to be installed on the reservoir to prevent the possibility of water entering the pump.

In addition, a special policy adjustment will be provided on the washer pump for 5 years from vehicle in-service date on all involved vehicles.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Involved are all 1985 C/K model trucks and certain 1986 C/K model trucks built within the following V.I.N. breakpoints.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
