NO COLD START CAPABILITY WHEN GLOW PLUG WAIT IS NOT OBSERVED

MODELS: 1985-89 C/K R/V G AND P MODELS WITH 6.2L DIESEL ENGINES (VIN CODES J, C)

Some 1985-89 C, K, R, V, G and P-trucks with a 6.2L diesel engine may experience a "no start" condition when cold.

The electronic glow plug controller, P/N 12052153 (color coded black), may be responsible for a no start condition.

If a no start condition exists, refer to the diagnostic procedure listed in GMC bulletin 88-T-39 (corporate number 866001). Should an electronic glow plug controller be required, based on your diagnostics, the following controller should be used.

The new controller, P/N 12088520 (color coded grey), is being released with improved circuit board components to address no start difficulty.

Part is currently available from GMSPO.

Use applicable labor operation number and time.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
