POOR/NO INST. CLUSTER ILLUM. REMOVE INTERFERENCE FROM BULB

SUBJECT: POOR OR NO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ILLUMINATION IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER

MODELS: 1992 C/K VEHICLES

Owners of some 1992 C/K vehicles may notice the upper left corner of the instrument cluster dimly lit or totally unilluminated while driving with the lights on. The most likely cause, other than a burned out bulb, is an interference between the upper left instrument panel illumination bulb socket and the instrument panel male electrical connector housing. The condition can be remedied by removing only enough material from the instrument panel connector housing area to eliminate the interference.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

2. Remove the instrument panel bezel.

3. Remove the left air conditioning duct.

4. Remove the PRNDL cable at the steering column.

5. Inspect the instrument panel cluster connector housing for signs of contact with the cluster illumination bulb socket (Figure 1, 2).

6. Remove the interference causing material from the Instrument Panel Cluster Connector Housing (Lower Left-Hand Corner) and test the cluster fit (Figure 1).

7. Install the instrument cluster

8. Install the left air conditioning duct

9. Install the PRNDL cable and adjust if necessary

10. Install the instrument cluster bezel

11. Install the lower steering column trim panel

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
