POOR RADIO RECEPTION NOISE/ST (REPL. RADIO ANTENNA CAB & BD)

SUBJECT: POOR RADIO RECEPTION NOISE/STATIC (REPLACE RADIO ANTENNA CABLE AND BODY ASSEMBLY)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988-93 "C/K" TRUCKS

SUBJECT: ------- POOR RADIO RECEPTION NOISE/STATIC (REPLACE RADIO ANTENNA CABLE AND BODY ASSEMBLY)

MODELS: 1988-93 C/K 1,2,3

CONDITION:

--------- Owners of some 1988-93 C/K trucks may comment about poor radio reception or static.

CAUSE:

----- Water intrusion through the antenna base. The sealing compound contained in the antenna base may separate, thus allowing water to enter the antenna base and from there migrate along the antenna cable. Usually, the separation cannot be seen by a visual inspection.

CORRECTION:

---------- Uncouple the connection where the antenna cable and antenna cable extension meet (Figure 1). Check for the presence of moisture, corrosion, or other signs of water intrusion. If there is any sign of moisture at the connector, replace the antenna cable and body assembly (P/N 15963441). If water intrusion is present, it will also be necessary to replace the antenna extension cable between the antenna body terminal and radio receiver. (See Figures 1 and 2.)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
