SUBJECT-. INFORMATION ON SERVICING PCM'S WITH MYLAR STRIPS

MODELS: 1993 ALL TRUCKS

In a continuing effort to improve the quality of our products, new PCM's are being built with mylar strips inserted in each connector. This mylar strip reduces the potential for bending connector pins when the PCM is connected to the wiring harness. As the harness is connected to the PCM, this mylar strip is pushed to the back of the connector. The service units you receive may have the mylar strips pushed back or at the front edge of the connector.

Here are two special guidelines to observe when you notice these mylar strips:

. Do not attempt to pull out the mylar strips to the front edge of the connector. Due care when servicing these units will prevent bent pins. . Do not attempt to remove the mylar strips even if they are damaged. There is enough clearance at the back of the connector for one mylar strip.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
