SUBJECT: HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E FULL SERVICE PROCEDURE (GENERAL INFORMATION)

BULLETIN COVERS:

Since the introduction of the HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E automatic transmission in 1993, units requiring service have been replaced by SRTA. During the early part of 1993 dealers were able to perform certain on-car repairs to the HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E. Effective immediately, GM dealers can perform full service operations on the HYDRA- MATIC 4L60-E.

NOTE: IN THE INTEREST OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, SRTA MODELS SHOULD ONLY BE CONSIDERED WHEN THE PROJECTED COST OF PARTS AND LABOUR EXCEEDS THE COST OF A SRTA REPLACEMENT.

TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER AND LINE FLUSHING:

Transmission oil cooler system flushing must be performed whenever a HYDRA-MATIC transmission is replaced or overhauled. Failure to properly flush the oil cooler and cooler pipes may cause repeat transmission failure. The Kent-Moore transmission oil cooler and line flushing tool (J35944-essential), must be used along with 21 ounces of Kent-Moore cooler flushing fluid (J35944-20 for one gallon, and J35944-CSE for six gallon container of flushing fluid). J35944-20/ J35944-CSE is a blend of detergents designed to cut and remove transmission contaminants. The solvent is biodegradable so discarding used solvent is not a problem.
