Disassembly Procedure

  1. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
  2. • Pry the seal out with a screwdriver.
    • If the cover is off the engine, drive the seal out with multiple hits on the inside of the seal from the inside of the cover.
  3. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.

Cleaning and Inspection Procedure

  1. Clean the sealer from the front cover and the engine case.
  2. Inspect the following parts for damage:
  3. • The timing tab marker
    • The front cover

Assembly Procedure

Tools Required

J 22102 Crankshaft Seal Installer


    Object Number: 64935  Size: SH
  1. Assemble the crankshaft front oil seal using the J 22102 .
  2. The open end of the seal must be facing the inside of the front cover.

  3. Lightly coat the seal lips with grease.
  4. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
