Notice: The fuel injection pump is an electronically controlled device. Handle
carefully in order to prevent damage to internal and external components.
Important: Align timing marks at Top Dead Center (TDC) prior to removing the fuel
injection pump driven gear bolts.
- Remove the fuel injection pump driven gear retaining bolts .
- Remove the fuel injection pump driven gear.
- Loosen the fuel injection
pump fuel return hose clamps.
- Remove the fuel injection pump fuel return hose.
- Remove the fuel injection pump fuel feed pipe clips at the brackets.
- Remove the fuel injection pump fuel feed pipe brackets.
- Loosen the fuel injection
nozzle to fuel return pipe fuel return hose clamps.
- Remove the fuel injection nozzle to fuel return pipe fuel return
hoses.
- Remove the fuel return pipe retaining nuts.
- Remove the fuel return pipe.
- Using theJ 29698-A
remove fuel injection pump fuel injection fuel feed pipe fittings.
• | Do not bend the fuel injection fuel feed pipes. |
• | Cap the fuel feed pipe fittings and the fuel injection pump fittings
immediately. |
- Using theJ 29698-A
remove fuel nozzle fuel injection
fuel feed pipe fittings.
• | Wear safety glasses to protect against fuel spray. |
• | Use a 30 mm wrench to hold the fuel injection nozzle. |
• | Do not bend the fuel injection fuel feed pipes. |
• | Cap the fuel feed pipe fittings and the fuel injection nozzle
fittings immediately. |
- Remove the three fuel
injection pump mounting nuts.
- Loosen the fuel injection pump fuel feed hose clamps.
- Remove the fuel injection pump fuel feed hose.
Important: Never rotate the engine with the starter, the starter location engine
rotation fixture, or with the wrench from the front of the engine with the
fuel injection pump removed. The loose fuel pump drive gear could
become lodged in the front cover and cause gear tooth distress and
shear the camshaft drive gear. Align the camshaft gear timing marks
before installing the fuel injection pump drive gear.
- Remove the fuel injection pump.
- Remove the gasket.
- Loosen the fuel injection
nozzle fuel return hose clamps.
- Remove the fuel injection nozzle fuel return hoses.
Important: Mark the fuel injection nozzles, in order to return each fuel injection
nozzle to it's original location during installation.
Notice: In order to remove or install an injection nozzle, use the J 29873
on the 30-mm portion of the nozzle. Failure to use the 30-mm hex portion
will result in damage to the injection nozzle.
- Using theJ 29873
remove the fuel injection nozzles (1).
• | Cap the fuel injection nozzle fittings immediately. |
• | Store the fuel injection nozzles in a clean place. |
