1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.



4. Remove the propeller shaft yoke.
5. Remove the seal.

•	Use a screwdriver in order to remove the seal.

•	Do not damage the sealing bore.

Tools Required

J 29162 Output Shaft Seal Installer

1. Install the seal using the J 29162 .

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Install the propeller shaft yoke.

Tighten
Tighten the propeller shaft yoke nuts to 149 N·m (110 lb ft).

3. Install the propeller shaft.

Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement In Propeller Shaft.

4. Check the transfer case oil level and add oil as necessary. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities .
5. Install the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
6. Lower the vehicle.
